The
Westside Crime Prevention Program (WCPP)
, founded in 1980, is an independent community based not-for-profit
organization that works to keep the Upper West Side of Manhattan safe
for everyone who lives, works or goes to school in the neighborhood.
WCPP
focuses on promoting mutual respect and understanding between police
and our community; fostering young peoples development through
conflict resolution, mentoring and social and educational programs;
directly involving constituencies in crime prevention efforts; and responding
to crime in ways that reflect the concerns of our culturally and economically
diverse and vibrant neighborhood.
We
work to achieve these goals through education, advocacy, and collaboration
with organizational and individual community stakeholders.
Our
Geographic Area: We were founded to serve the community that is
contiguous with Community Board 7, from West 59th Street to West 110th
Street, Riverside Park to Central Park. Over the years, as our programs
have grown and gained success, we have been asked to bring our projects
to Harlem, the Lower East Side and the Bronx as well.
